Ryokōya is an iPhone travel journal app that records your routes and stops as you walk through a city, without requiring you to actively use your phone. When you start a trip and put your phone away, the app tracks where you went and the places you stopped, then presents your day back as a journal with a map, photos, and stories.
Each of the 51 supported cities has a RyokōMate—a local character who tells stories about neighborhoods and places you visit. The app also generates trip receipts showing statistics like steps, kilometers walked, and local activities, and offers city Bingo cards with nine things to do in each location.
Ryokōya is free to use for recording unlimited trips and viewing basic features. Pro subscriptions unlock photo backup, PDF exports, and additional features. City packs—curated collections of themed places—are one-time purchases separate from Pro.

How does Ryokōya record my trip if I put my phone away?
Start a trip in Ryokōya and put your phone in your pocket. The app keeps recording with your screen off as long as location access is set to While Using the App or Always, and Precise Location is enabled. Motion detection tracks walking versus sitting to optimize battery usage.
Can I correct places that Ryokōya identifies incorrectly?
Yes. Tap any stop in your trip journal to correct its name or location. Ryokōya remembers your corrections and uses your name for that spot from then on.
Do I need Pro to use City Packs?
No. Every pack city has a free starter pack. Other packs and city bundles are one-time purchases, separate from Pro. Pro and the 30-day Trip Pass unlock additional app features, not the paid City Pack catalog.
How is my trip data protected?
Your trips live on your iPhone only. There is no Ryokōya server holding your travel history. With Pro, you can choose to back them up in your own iCloud. The app has no advertising trackers and does not sell your data.
