Scan product labels and see what every ingredient does
A label scanner for food, drinks, cosmetics, personal care and household products that translates ingredient lists into plain-English explanations of what each
About the business

Aurascan is a mobile app and web platform that decodes product labels by scanning barcodes and explaining each ingredient in plain English. Rather than collapsing labels into single scores, it shows what each ingredient does, supported by evidence tiers ranging from human trials to mechanism studies.
The app covers food, drinks, cosmetics, personal care and household products. Free users get 5 scans per day with complete ingredient explanations and scientific sources. Plus members get unlimited scans, product search, and comparison tools. Pro users add personalized recommendations based on health conditions and dietary preferences, plus a food diary with daily totals.
Aurascan is currently in public beta on iPhone via TestFlight and open for early access sign-ups. The company has raised $25,500 across three pitch competitions and plans a public App Store release.

How do I join the iOS beta?
Aurascan is in public beta on iPhone through Apple's TestFlight. Install the TestFlight app from the App Store, then open the public TestFlight link on your iPhone and follow the prompts to install Aurascan. It is not yet on the App Store or Google Play, and there is no Android version. Join the waitlist to hear when the public release opens.
Why can I only scan 5 products per day on the Free plan?
The Free plan includes 5 product scans per day as its limit. Scanning the same product multiple times counts as one scan. The count resets every day at midnight UTC. Plus and Pro plans include unlimited scans.
What happens if a product is not in the database?
You can add it by photographing the front label, ingredient list, and nutrition facts panel. After you tap Analyze, you get a result that stays private until Aurascan reviews it. Approved products join the shared catalog and are credited as user-contributed. On the Free plan, adding a product uses one of your daily scans.
What is the food diary on the Insight tab?
The food diary is a Pro feature that lets you log foods and scanned products by meal and see daily totals for calories, protein, carbs and fat. It also shows weekly and monthly views. On Free and Plus plans, the Insight tab shows the diary locked.
Why can I only scan 5 products a day?
The Free plan includes 5 product scans per day. It counts different products, so opening something you already scanned today doesn't use another scan. The count resets every day at midnight UTC. Plus and Pro include unlimited scans.
