About Open Source
Open source is the workshop with its door left open. Anyone can read the code, run it and change it. This part of New Biz Launches gathers the products and businesses built on that idea: apps you can install today, libraries other builders rely on, tools you host on your own server, and AI models whose workings are out in the open.
Some listings here are small studios earning a living from support, hosting or custom work around free code. Others are a solo maker just putting up the sign. Start with the subcategories below to narrow things down. Leave the list on newest first to spot who has just opened, or sort by community votes to see what other visitors rate.

Open Source: questions answered
- What belongs in the Open Source category?
- Products and businesses whose core code is published for others to read and reuse, or that are built around such code. That includes finished apps, code libraries, software you host yourself and open AI projects. Closed products with only a free tier belong in other categories.
- How do I choose between open source apps and self-hosted tools?
- Pick open source apps for software you simply want to use, often with a hosted version available. Pick self-hosted tools when running it on your own server or machine is the point, for control over your data. If a listing fits both, its maker chooses the best main category.
- How do I get my open source project listed?
- Go to /submit and paste your website address. An AI drafts the profile from your site, and you check and edit every field before anything goes live. Your main category is included free. An upgrade of $5 adds up to 3 more categories.
- How are listings ordered on this page?
- Newest listings appear first by default, so recent arrivals get seen. Visitors can switch to sorting by community votes. Votes can never be bought, so that ordering reflects what people have actually chosen to back.
- What should I compare when choosing an open source product?
- Check the licence terms, how clearly the documentation explains setup, and whether the maker offers support or hosting if you need it. Read the listing profile for what the project does and who runs it, then follow the link to the project itself to judge how active it looks.
